This is a quick post for all you parents out there who need a little motivation to continue the efforts of feeding your kids well! It can be challenging and it can feel like an uphill battle. But, by persistently encouraging them, and exposing them to good foods, I believe it will pay off.
Just the other night my youngest son (now four) asked, “Mom, what are we having for breakfast tomorrow?” I’m not sure yet, do you have any requests? He answers with, “I want hotdogs with sauerkraut, over greens, and with blueberries.” !!!!! Sounds like a plan, buddy.
And with a request like that, I was going to make it happen.
• Applegate Farms grass-fed, all beef, organic hotdogs cooked in coconut oil
• Farmhouse Culture, Garlic Dill Pickle sauerkraut (naturally fermented)
• Organic grape tomatoes, diced avocado and organic blueberries
• All over mixed organic greens
My boys may not always sound like normal kids, but they are. They have just been exposed to certain foods that become their normalcy. They see “greens” on their breakfast plate 95% of the time and that is what they expect and learn to appreciate. The hotdogs in this breakfast were something they don’t see very often in the morning, so to them that added a little excitement to the meal.
We are always talking about which foods make them feel good, why certain foods are healthy for them, and what natural colors we can add to our plates for variety.
As my little one was eating his breakfast he says,
“I love sauerkraut with greens! It’s so yummy.” (Slurping sound effects included)
Music to a mother’s ears.
