I’m always looking for more natural ways to keep my family healthy and comfortable. Often times, the combination of a few household items and a little knowledge keeps me from turning to more potentially harmful “solutions.” In this post, I share a few of our favorite homemade “potions” this time of year. These happen to make fabulous DIY gifts for others as well!
• 2 ounces Coconut oil, melted
Add RC drops to melted coconut oil, stir and pour into a little glass jar, like this one from Amazon.
Apply a light layer to the chest for relief of congestion.
This decongestant rub has been great for my kids when they catch the inevitable winter cold. Rubbing a little onto their chest has helped them sleep at night when they are congested.
Pain Relief Cream
• 1/2 cup Coconut oil
Place coconut oil in mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat on low for 2 minutes until fluffy and smooth. Stir in essential oils and then beat again with hand mixer for 30 seconds. Place in glass jars like these.
Apply a light layer to pain areas.
This is a great alternative to pain relief medication, or Bengay type rubs. It honestly works wonders for our family, whether it’s sore muscles, headaches caused by neck tension, or my son’s growing pains.
For display purposes I used a clear glass jar, but these glass jars would be perfect for long term storage.
• 1 tsp Witch Hazel
• 2 oz filtered Water
Add witch hazel to a 2 oz glass spray bottle, like this one from Amazon. Fill the bottle with water. Add thieves oil, place cap on bottle and shake gently.
Apply as needed to hands.
I love to keep this in my purse and in the car!
