Persimmons and Asian Pears are a great addition to your Fall fruit repertoire. How many of you get stuck in the same fruit rut?! It can be fun to branch out and add some unique flavors to your dishes now and again. In addition, in-season produce is typically fresher and thus more nutrient dense.
Fuyu Persimmons should be eaten fairly firm like and apple. I like to slice off the top and then slice in vertical sections (like an orange). They can also be sliced horizontally like a beefsteak tomato. I typically peel off the skin, but it can be eaten. Fuyu persimmons have a rich sweetness. They are a great source of antioxidants, vitamins (A, B-complex), fiber, calcium and potassium.
Asian pears are a crisp, refreshing and juicy! Choose firm and minimally scuffed pears for freshness and flavor.
Try chopped persimmons and asian pears in your next green salad, in a fruit compote or sliced as a compliment to your meal. Add to your kid’s school lunch and see if they can guess what they are:-)
